Another Round of Swim Lessons

For the past 2 weeks, B, J & T have had swim lessons. This year, I couldn't get their lessons scheduled for the same time, so we spent an hour at the swim club each morning. It wasn't bad. I brought a book to read and the boys brought their GameBoys or DS. Anyhow, the boys were troopers. Some mornings, they weren't 'feeling it', but they still did their best.

Here's J working on his breathing

Here's T working on his 'kickers'

So handsome!!

Here's B swimming freestyle. He worked up to swimming 12 laps. He's really good at his flip turns, too. I joked with him that he'd show up to Middle School with some huge biceps!

We've been really happy with the swim lessons at the Aquatic Center. I really want my boys to be strong swimmers. I truly believe it is an essential life skill that they need to have. I want to be able to send them to Scout Camp, for example, and know that they will be okay when they swim. I'm proud of my boys' hard work. They each got a great 'report card' from their teachers.

More Swimming and More Playdates

B really worked on stroke development in his class. He did really well. He got the flip-turns down really quick. I was impressed.
T is working on his "kickers" here. He loved his class and continually wanted to bring stuff each day to show his teachers. He even wanted to show her his pajamas. Go figure!
J also worked a lot of stroke development. They also went over water safety, which I think is awesome.
The boys all got suckers after their last class today along with a certificate with some feedback about how they did in class. I find these to be very helpful. I only signed them up for 1 session of swim lessons this year.
After swim lessons today, J & B both had a friend over for a play date. B and his friend spent a lot of time building Legos before they jumped into the pool. J & his friend had lunch and spent time coloring before they swam. I tossed coins into the pool for them to find. They really liked the challenge.

T joining in the fun. He's a fish!! He loves to swim and would swim all day if he could.

J and his friend had a blast together today. The time really did fly by. We had popcorn, juice boxes and cookies. No complaints there!

B & his friend filled up a bunch of water balloons to play around with. They had almost as much fun filling them up as they did playing with them. The balloons are fun to put into the pool because they just float around under the surface of the water. You can toss them around the pool and the don't pop. But, yes, they did have fun tossing them at each other. Isn't summer great??!

1st Day of Swim Lessons

J moved up a level to the Marlin class in the big pool. J is a really good swimmer, and commented about doing the swim team like N next year.
N observed his brothers' lessons. Since we signed him up for swim team, he's not taking lessons with his brothers.
B taking a break in the bright sun during his swim lessons. He moved up to the Shark class.
Here's T after his swim lesson. He's in the Duck class. He cried for the first 1/2 of the class, so I couldn't get close enough to take a picture for fear he'd see me and want out! He seemed to enjoy the 2nd half of the class, though. We've had really good instructors here. They were able to get an assistant to help T one-on-one to calm down. I really appreciated that. I want my boys to be great swimmers because I honestly believe it is an important life skill. I don't want to be worrying night and day when I send them off to Scout Camp, for example, because they don't know how to swim! Not going to happen. Swimming is great exercise, it's refreshing, and it gets us out of the house. Plus, it's just a lot of fun!

Another Summer Day

This morning began with cuddles & giggles as J & T piled into bed with me, along with several stuffed animals. What a way to start the day!! Later, T & I played a very interesting game of “Go Fish”. I had no idea of the rules or how to play his version. All I know is that we were playing a game! Eventually, he was satisfied with the results and he moved on to another adventure – climbing in the closet to get to the blue play dough. Mission accomplished—now on to the kitchen drawers to see what kind of “tools” to use for his play dough creations. He wasn't too happy when I took away some birthday candles and a very sharp can-opener. Yep, he’s non-stop action. I don’t get much done around here, and I know I’m not alone in this, right?>

The boys had swimming lessons, again, today. They are starting their 4th, and final week of lessons. I watched J swim incredibly fast across the pool today. His teacher was standing alongside him and couldn’t keep up with him! My jaw dropped. N is preparing to swim 20 laps (25 yards each)with no stops to pass his current level. I asked him if he was worried about it. He said that he’s been doing it almost every day anyway, so it was no big deal. B was learning another stroke today and seemed to pick it up pretty quick. T is plugging along, too. I like how his swimming lessons just help him burn off some of his energy!

So, we’re not going anywhere big this summer. We did a big family trip in March. We surprised our boys by taking them to Legoland, down near San Diego. They literally didn’t have a clue where we were going up until we were about to arrive, which was fun for G & I. We spent 2 days at Legoland, 1 day at the beach, and 1 day at Sea World. We spent some time walking around the San Diego Temple grounds, too. We swam every day at the hotel. We had so much fun. They were all so worn out that they all slept in the van, at some point, on the way back home. So, we’re just hanging out this summer here. Fine by me. Sometimes it’s just nice to be home and do nothing …
